Ph.D. (2017) Federal University of Minas Gerais, Brazil

I received my B.Sc in Biomedical Sciences (2011) from the Federal University of Goiás, Brazil. I started studying genetics as an undergrad supervised by Dr. Wagner Gouvêa dos Santos in a project where I genotyped a couple of single nucleotide polymorphisms from Diabetes type II patients using PCR-RFLP. After that, I moved on to get my Master's and Doctorate degrees at Dr. Gustavo Kuhn's lab at the Federal University of Minas Gerais, also in Brazil. There I worked with cytogenomics of repetitive DNA in fruit flies with a focus on Drosophila virilis. I also collaborated in projects led by Dr. Marta Svartman dealing with repeat characterisation in the genomes of new world primates.

During the last year of my Ph.D. I did a short term internship at Dr. Casey Bergman's lab at UGA. Since January 2018 I have joined the Bergman Lab as a postdoc.
