I study how cell fates are determined in the developing mouse embryo.  Specifically, I am investigating how progression through the cell cycle drives cell fates, using the third pharyngeal pouch as a model.  Interestingly, in the third pharyngeal pouch, cells make a binary choice to become thymus or parathyroid. I plan to use combination of genetic and pharmaceutical approaches to alter the cell cycle in the third pharyngeal pouch to determine how such alterations impact cell fates, signaling responses, and chromatin structure.
