The health benefits of fish oil have expanded in recent years. As laboratory breakthroughs expand the understanding of omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids’ impact on brain health and warding off a variety of cancers, uptake in the public has followed. 

Dawe began his postdoctoral work at a lab in Berkeley that used 3D light microscopy to study maize chromosomes.

Janet (Jan) Westpheling, longtime professor in the Franklin College of Arts and Sciences’ genetics department, passed away Feb. 16 after an extended illness.  

The study relied on data from a United Kingdom-based study of over 250,000 people who were followed for more than a decade. Of those participants, almost 30,000 developed some form of cancer during the study period.
