Genetics is the future and the past. The history and the promise of every organism is written in its DNA.

Geneticists are leading one of the major scientific revolutions of humankind, delving into the distant past and providing an unprecedented understanding of the biological world.

Our department offers a supportive and unique training environment across the full spectrum of genetics, bridging the disciplines of molecular genetics, development, genomics, and evolutionary biology.

The Department of Genetics is in UGA's Franklin College of Arts and Sciences.

University of Georgia researcher Kaixiong Ye has received a Maximizing Investigators Research Award from the National Institutes of Health.
“The Flint is one of the most diverse river basins in Georgia, for both fishes and mussels. So, it’s really important for conservation reasons,” said Peter Hazelton, an assistant professor at the UGA Warnell School of Forestry and Natural Resources.
Megan Meany, a Ph.D. candidate in genetics, is investigating the genetic mechanisms underlying sex determination and gonad differentiation in the brown anole lizard Anolis sagrei.
